Text:
Against the Wall
—for the 30,000 Victims of Argentine’s Military Junta
The concrete wall points to the river where the disappeared reappeared.
The concrete wall whispers names in the whipping wind...
Albert Luis Calou, age 38
Luis Alberto Camacho, age 24
Carmen Amalia Calvo, age 23
whose friend
Maria Eugenia Sanliorienti, age 23
held her newborn son,
sang lullabies
cradled hope
spoke up
between changing diapers
and wrapping empanadas
before seven bullets stole her voice
left her son a hole as empty
as the junta's gun barrels.
The concrete wall is as immortal
as the crimes of the state
that echo on these panels
exposing a regime desperate
to silence 30,000 young dreams and
stain a country with their blood.
The concrete wall dares us
to remember the names
Dares us to scream when
Injustice tears dreams
Dares us to stand like a wall
between freedom and forces
that inspire concrete walls.
