The Refrigerator
Stands stiff and still as a soldier
Generously provides for others
without question

Unlike dressers
whose moody nature
demands us to jerk and jiggle
drawers back on track

We trust the fridge to chill
adjust to our whims
work without reward
hold even the turkey
the gallon of milk
the 10-pound bag of potatoes
the weight of our weight
sustain the spinach
while we find the perfect recipe
cool the juice

Even the oldest of them
rarely forget their mission
fail only in the din of storms
still not afraid to open.
This is true power.
