Poem and Art by Emily Thornton Calvo
Text:
Spring Starlings
In early spring
starling silhouettes
glide, arch and dive like a pageant of skaters
or schools of fish traversing currents.
The birds paint van Gogh curves
before they are erased as they
blend into black branches that
bend in wind like
ballerinas’ arms above their heads.
Natures lava lamp mesmerizes.
Across the road
autos go slow
fast
straight
turn right
left.
Can we fly with the grace of starlings?
